Digital Architecture_ Initial Interests
After our first lecture, and having done some research into Generative and parametric design. I have come across some techniques used by some architects to create free form shapes from a set of parameters using hairy dynamics. Im not sure at the moment how this is achieved but it is something that has caught my interest.
The first Video is from Shampoo and is the design of Grigoriadis .K, Shamma .I, Palacio. A.R, and Fereos .P it is an example of a free form design who’s parameters are derived from the exploration of Hair dynamics. It is a network of housing, integrated with commercial and recreational zones. Located in West Midtown Manhattan, New York.
The next link is another example of how a design can be influenced by hair dynamics. I suggest you have a good look at this web site as there lots of informative and interesting videos on different techniques of Parametric Design.

This is a a piece by Nicholas Szczepaniak from A Defensive Architecture
The picture shows the tensile trunks- facade detail and development model for the notion bleeding light.
The reason I have singled out this image, is that i really enjoy the way he has been able to express his whole facade in to a single component.
An extract from Toby Burgess work Self Supporting Membrane Tensegrities
I been interested in this piece as I would l believe that my design should only be a non permeant structure. This is a completely stand alone piece of architecture derived from a single self supporting component.
